Vegetables & Herbs for Shady Spots

Vegetables and Herbs You Can Grow in Shade

  1. Salad Greens, such as leaf lettuce, arugula, endive, cress, and radicchio
  2. Peas
  3. Beets
  4. Radishes
  5. Swiss Chard
  6. Leafy Greens, such as collards, mustard greens, spinach, and kale
  7. Beans
  8. Brussels Sprouts
  9. Broccoli and cauliflower
  10. Parsley (flat leaf, not curly)
  11. Lemon balm

I have bought lettuce seeds on numerous occasions which instruct “plant in full sun” – instructions which I simply cannot fathom: My lettuce (and spinach for that matter) ALWAYS bolt in the sunny spots of my garden. Why court failure? Sunny spots are now reserved for my strawberries, pepperone peppers (yum!!), chillies, aubergines, corn, squash and root vegetables.
